Characteristics

Size: Up to 5/8-inch long.

Color: Varies from black, brown and black, red and black, to light brown depending on the species.The two most common pest species are black in color.

Carpenter Ants do not carry pathogens or eat wood but they can do expensive damage to structural members of your home.

What do they eat? Carpenter Ants feed off live or dead insects, meats, fats and sugary foods such as honey dew.

Habitat

Where do they live? Carpenter Ants generally live in hollow parts of a tree or tree stump. They can also nest in a wall void or a hollow door. Because Carpenter Ants establish satellite colonies they can originate outside and find their way into your home and nest in multiple areas. An average colony can contain as much as 2000 worker ants.

How can I get rid of them? Controlling Carpenter Ants can be difficult if not done properly. Depending on the nest area you will need to inject material into a wall void, door, curtain rod. Attic or crawl space areas will need treatment as well as the exterior of the home.
